Challenges ahead for the SMEs
Corona pandemic induced challenges lie ahead for the SMEs. If you are in IT services, you are likely to receive project termination notices from few of your clients (especially from smaller sized clients), and if you are a product company or a start-up, you will likely see a dip in revenues from subscription cancellations in the near future – unless you are in healthcare, insurance, and edutech domains.
Following are 5 suggestions for you to deal with the challenges -
  • Do not lose your top performing employees for any reason. They are the ones who will think of ways to help you not only sustain operations now, but also help you grow business when time is ripe.
  • Conserve cash. It’s difficult to raise money in a crisis situation. Cut costs wherever feasible, review every cost to see if it is absolutely required.
  • Work with the terminating clients to keep even least amount of work going. Be innovative - offer reduced prices or something else. When things settle, they’ll give your more business.
  • Keep communicating with your employees on regular basis on current status, and steps you are taking to manage the situation. Transparency will help build and improve trust levels, and keep a check to rumours.
  • ‘A crisis is a terrible thing to waste’ – brainstorm with your team to find any new opportunities that are on the horizon due to the current crisis, and fine tune your product/service offerings accordingly. Now is also good time to cherry pick top talent from the market at low cost.

Message from Vice President, HYSEA – Bharani K Aroll
We are collectively facing a Pandemic threat that is sweeping across the humanity beyond oceans and borders having impacted more than 175 countries and territories. It is also having a growing impact on the global economy. The shock to our livelihoods from the economic impact of virus-suppression efforts could be the biggest in nearly a century.
As we have witnessed, the Hyderabad IT industry went through a severe and unprecedented crisis the last few weeks. However , we managed the crisis with a lot resilience and recovered with a strong resolve collectively to face the evolving new normal. Team HYSEA worked tirelessly along with SCSC, Cyberabad Police and Telangana Government to ensure that the Industry could navigate through the crisis to emerge stronger. Long way to go but, I am sure we will defeat corona and march towards our goal of making Hyderabad the IT capital of the world. Stay safe.
